Tolerability of NuvaRing
NuvaRing is generally well tolerated. The most frequently reported undesirable effects in the clinical trials with NuvaRing were headache, vaginal infections and vaginal discharge, each reported by 5–6% of women.
The low, steady and continuous dosing of ethinylestradiol in NuvaRing is associated with a low incidence of estrogen-related adverse effects, such as nausea and breast tenderness.1
Furthermore, because of the novel vaginal delivery system, ethinylestradiol and etonogestrel are not subjected to first pass metabolism and therefore NuvaRing is unaffected by diarrhoea and vomiting.1
Adverse events should be reported. Reporting forms and information can be found at www.yellowcard.gov.uk.
Adverse events should also be reported to MSD Drug Safety Department on 01707 363773
