How do you insert NuvaRing
?
(etongestrel/ethinylestradiol)
Inserting NuvaRing is as easy as putting in a tampon. After washing your hands and removing NuvaRing from the packet, simply, squeeze the ring between the thumb and index finger of one hand to compress it and slip it into the vagina, gently pushing it up in until it feels comfortable. You will probably find this easiest in a standing position with one leg raised although you may prefer to lie down. Once inserted, only keep NuvaRing in for 3 weeks. Keep the foil pouch the ring comes in so that you may use this to dispose of NuvaRing when it is removed.
(a)(b)
(a) Using one hand, NuvaRing is compressed and inserted into the vagina (b) The ring is pushed into the vagina until it feels comfortable
NuvaRing is not like a barrier method of contraceptive: it does not need to be in any particular position in the vagina for it to work. As long as you have inserted NuvaRing high enough, you should not be aware that it is there. If you are aware of the ring just use your index finger to gently push the ring in a little bit further until it sits comfortably.
