How to use NuvaRing
To use, women insert NuvaRing into the vagina, leave for 3 weeks and then wait 1 week after removal before inserting a new NuvaRing.1
The NuvaRing summary of product characteristics contains a detailed description of how to advise women to insert and remove the vaginal ring, which are briefly outlined below.

NuvaRing provides monthly
contraception
Inserting NuvaRing
After removing NuvaRing from its packet, the ring should be compressed between the thumb and index finger of one hand and then gently pushed into the vagina until it feels comfortable. For ease of insertion, the woman should choose a position that is most comfortable for her, which may be similar to the position used when inserting a tampon (e.g. one leg raised slightly, squatting, or lying down).
Once inserted, the ring relaxes and expands to fit the upper part of the vagina. NuvaRing will be held in place by the vaginal wall and, in terms of contraceptive efficacy, is not important where NuvaRing sits within the vagina so long as it is comfortable. The majority of women and their partners will not be able to feel NuvaRing once inserted.
Removing NuvaRing
NuvaRing should be removed 3 weeks after insertion. Removal involves hooking the index finger of one hand under the ring and pulling it out of the vagina. Alternatively, NuvaRing can be removed by grasping the ring between the index and middle finger and gently pulling downwards and out of the vagina.

(a) using one hand, NuvaRing is compressed and inserted into the vagina, (b) the ring is pushed into the vagina until it feels comfortable; (c) to remove, the index finger of one hand can be hooked under the ring and pulled out of the vagina.
