Shelf life and storage of NuvaRing
NuvaRing has a shelf life of 40 months and requires cold chain storage.1 Before dispensing, the product must be kept in a refrigerator at a temperature of between 2°C and 8°C. NuvaRing may be stored for up to 36 months before being dispensed, but after this time dispensation is recommended to ensure that the product’s shelf-life does not expire before it is able to be used.
At the time of dispensing, the pharmacist must write both the date of dispensing and use by date on the packaging of each ring. The date should be 4 months from the date they took the ring out of the fridge. The woman should be advised of the use by date.
After NuvaRing has been dispensed, the patient should be advised to store in the original packaging and told not insert NuvaRing any later than 4 months from the date of dispensing or the expiry date on the package, whichever comes first. The patient should be advised to store NuvaRing at room temperature (less than 30°C).
